INHERITING POVERTYMany people in America are shielded from the idea of poverty or completely unaware of the problem. For many of the images associated with poverty are those of hungry children, box houses and far away places. However, the Behrens family of South Dakota exemplifies the modern form of poverty in America. With their two daughters and a baby on the way, they live in a single wide trailer that is hardly big enough for a family of five. They are in a constant struggle to survive off their single-family income having to maintain a delicate balance between paying their bills and eating a hot meal. Yet it is evident to see that despite their hardships, the Behrens’s household is full of love and laughter.
